Fring on the iPhone…

If you have a jailbroken iPhone, Fring is one of the coolest apps you can try out for your handset at this time. Essentially it is a messaging app with the capability to make SIP and SkypeOut calls. However, the GUI is very nicely done, and for the most part it works well. However, these are the issues I’ve had with it so far:
1) You can’t add or delete any buddies to any of your IM subscriptions, just to Fring.
2) Battery life is drained far faster than without the application on (since it remains connected).
3) When making a call, there is no virtual keyboard AFTER you initiate the call so you can’t do stuff like send tones when calling a service. It will also not send audio to a bluetooth headset if you have it connected.
4) Call Quality is just so-so.
5) Chat conversations are not always remembered.
In spite of these issues, I’m pretty impressed with what they have accomplished.
