Spotify Mobile Review
December 13, 2009 by Carlos Eduardo · 1 Comment
I’ve been using the Spotify mobile service on my iPhone now for a couple of weeks. These are my thoughts:
- It is worth the 10 English Bucks per month they are charging me to use it. I use mobile apps more than computer apps since I have my mobile with me at all times.
- It crashes every once in a while, but if I muck with the ‘force offline’ button it usually fixes it. The digital equivalent of hitting the TV when the reception ain’t right.
- Discovery of music on the mobile app is a no-go, or rather, a painful experience. I have now resorted to managing the entire thing from the PC and then just synching it.
- If a playlist is half downloaded, the app will not ignore the undownloaded songs, so instead you’ll have to skip through them because the player will hang on the empty song when you’re offline.
- It does get annoying not to be able to check SMS or email whilst listening to music like with the native iPod app. However, the Spotify app will pickup where it left off when you re-launch it.
- I occasionally get weird messages that I signed in to Spotify somewhere else and thus it stops playing. Unless I have a twin I’m unaware of, I think this is a bug.
- The UI can be annoying at times as doesn’t let you do much in the way of sorting of songs within a playlist.
- Song quality (encoding) seems to vary song to song.. maybe it’s just me.
Again, I would say I’m overall very pleased with the service and would recommend it in spite of any growing pains it may be suffering right now.
