Nokia 6600 : 07/20/2004
by Carlos E.
I've had the Treo 600 for quite a while it seems (5 months) and I've been
ecstatic with it. I've kept it the longest of any phone I've ever owned, but
of course, like any phone fanatic, I'm starting to get restless. I need to
go and explore my options.
Having had a smart phone, I'm just not interested in non-smart phones anymore.
I love being able to do a lot of things with the address book and with the
calendar that you can't do with regular phone. I like being able to access
information and applications that I've installed, such as Financial calculators
and Vindigo.
That said, I narrowed it down to the Nokia 6600 that T-Mobile has released as part of their phone collection. The 6600 has been out for a while, but I didn't feel it was worth its ridiculous price that it was fetching when it was first released, nor do I think some phones such as the P900 are worth their ridiculous prices when they are more expensive than the Treo 600 and arguably less capable.
The first thing that I missed when using the 6600 was the touch screen. The operating system (series 60) is great for a phone, but because of the size of the screen and the number of icons that you can see, it's tempting to touch things in order to select them. Oh well.
Perhaps we should take a step back and look at why I chose the 6600 in the first place...
The things that drew me to the 6600 were:
So.. I started playing with both phones side by side for a long.. long.. time... and this are my thoughts:
So it shouldn't come as a surprise to you that in the end I decided not to get the 6600. I just couldn't see it being worth it for the time being, not with the pending release of the Treo ACE which should prove to be interesting, for it will have some improvements such as bluetooth, higher resolution screen, the latest PalmOS, and more memory.
If you're in the market for a phone, though, not a PDA phone, or a phone that is smaller than the Treo, but still 'smart', the 6600 is my choice.
